Chair Hagerty called the emergency meeting to order at 3:15 p.m. The Chief Justice requested
the Board call an emergency meeting to discuss whether salary increases should be granted to the
probationary employees at the time when the regular employees receive the salary increases
granted by the legislature.
Justice Kapsner indicated there is nothing in the policies that prohibit this from happening but as
a matter of practice, we have not given probationary employees the increase.
It was moved by Rod Olson, seconded by Ross Munns, to recommend the Supreme Court
authorize the probationary employees receive the same salary adjustment regular
employees receive effective July 1.
In response to a question from Judge McEvers asking if there are funds available for the increase,
Chair Hagerty responded the funds are available and the total increase is a little over $2,500.
In response to a question from Ted Smith asking the reason for the current practice, Chair
Hagerty responded although we are not bound by what the Executive Branch does, in some years
the legislature has not permitted increases these increases and other years the legislature has left
it an open issue.
A roll call vote was taken and the members present voted unanimously to recommend the
Supreme Court grant the adjustment to probationary employees.
