The Executive Committee of the Judicial Conference met on December 6, 2012. Chair Kapsner
called the meeting to order at 8:03 a.m.
Justice Sandstrom made a motion to submit the proposed bill draft on post-conviction
relief to the legislature. The motion was seconded by Judge Romanick. The motion
carried.
Justice Sandstrom made a motion to support the introduction of two bills, one related to
the right of persons committed as a sexually-dangerous individual to an annual review of
the commitment, and the other regarding the timeline to file the examiner’s report in
criminal cases where the issue of a defendant’s fitness to proceed has been raised. The
motion was lost for lack of a second.
Judge McCullough made a motion to nominate Justice Sandstrom to the newly re-activated
Cameras in the Courtroom Committee. The motion was seconded by Judge Romanick. Judge Geiger `made a motion to nominate Judge Herman, and alternatively, if Judge
Herman declines the nomination, then Judge Joshua Rustad. The motion was seconded by
Judge McCullough. The motions carried.
There being no further business to come before the committee, the chair adjourned the meeting at
8:30 a.m.
