The Executive Committee of the Judicial Conference met on June 14, 2012. Chair Kapsner
called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m.
Judge McCullough moved to approve the minutes of the February 24, 2012 meeting. The motion
was seconded by Justice Crothers. The motion carried and the minutes were approved.
The Committee was advised that there is a need to appoint two judges to the Pattern Jury
Instruction Commission. Judge Wade Webb’s term will expire on June 30, 2012, and he is not
eligible for reappointment due to term limits. Judge Richard Geiger’s term will expire on June
30, 2012. He is eligible for reappointment and has indicated his willingness to remain on the
Commission. Justice Kapsner reported that two people have expressed interest in being
appointed to the Commission: Judge Gail Hagerty and Judge Fair McEvers. Judge
McCullough made a motion that Judge Fair McEvers be appointed to a three-year term on
the Pattern Jury Instruction Commission. The motion was seconded by Justice Crothers.
Motion carried. Judge McCullough made a motion to re-appoint Judge Geiger to a three-year term on the Pattern Jury Instruction Commission. The motion was seconded by
Justice Crothers. Motion carried.
Chair Kapsner advised the committee that due to the limited amount of time available for the
judicial conference and business meeting today, there will not be enough time to review the
Summary of Previous Work on Providing Pro Se Services with the members of the judicial
conference. Instead, she will direct them to the report in their packets and ask them to contact
any member of the Executive Committee if they are interested in having the court pursue a
service center for self-represented litigants. Sally Holewa reported that the Chief Justice has also
asked Court Services Administration Committee to review the suggestion of a service center for
self-represented litigants.
There being no further business to come before the committee, the chair adjourned the meeting at
1:38 p.m.
