Help using online Lawyer Directory

The lawyers directory is generated from the State Board of Law Examiners/Supreme Court database. Throughout the day, reported changes to the data are updated every hour.

The Lawyers Directory includes:

Lawyer's name
Firm name
Address
Phone number
Fax number
E-mail address
Start letter function which starts a letter to the lawyer or judge in the user's word processing program.
Start e-mail message function which starts an e-mail message to the lawyer in the user's e-mail program
Download to contact manager which downloads to the users contact management software such as Outlook.
Download to Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) which downloads to the users handheld computer (such as a Palm Pilot.
Map for lawyer's office function which show the address on a map, and can also provide driving directions.
Photos of approximately 1,000 of the lawyers.

Download to Contact Manager

Users can click on an icon to load lawyer-contact information to their contact management software such as Outlook.

The "vCard" format of the data is the Internet standardized format for use with "all" contact management programs.

Either click on the icon or on the "Contacts" link on the individual lawyers record. The following will download:

Lawyer's name
Firm name
Address
Phone number
Fax number
E-mail address

Download to PDA

To download a lawyers contact page to a personal digital assistant ("PDA") handheld computer, first download free AvantGo software. Then click on either [PDA] or [PDA with Photo] to download the lawyer data. Click for more information on downloading to a PDA.

Photo

Lawyers are invited to submit photos for inclusion on the website. Include the lawyer's name and bar id number on the back of the photo, and mail to: Webmaster, Supreme Court, State Capitol, Bismarck, ND 58505-0530. Photos can be returned if a self-addressed stamped envelope is enclosed.

Digital photos (in either jpeg or gif formats) may be e-mailed to the webmaster. E-mail messages should clearly identify the lawyer's name and bar id number.

Lawyers may also have digital photos taken at the Supreme Court.

Any lawyer can request that the lawyer's photo be removed from the online directory, or can submit a replacement photo.

Law firm websites

Lawyers and law firms with websites may request their websites be linked in the online Lawyers Directory. Links will not be established, or will be terminated, to websites containing apparently outdated or otherwise inaccurate information, or if there are any ethical questions.
