Judge Clapp called the meeting to order. She asked for comments on the minutes from February 2, 2010 meeting. Minutes were approved.
CIP Annual Conference Report
Connie Portscheller and Julie Bruns attended the Court Improvement Annual Conference in Washington D.C. The CIP conference was held in conjunction with Data and Technology Conference. Connie provided a summary of the sessions she attended and commented that North Dakota was mentioned from the podium as a state recognized for the work the CIP program is working addressing ICWA issues.
Julie Bruns made a PowerPoint presentation the sessions she attended focusing on what other states are doing regarding data collection and analysis.
Sub-Committee Reports
GAL Sub-Committee - Dave McGeary, Chair. Dave reported that the sub-committee met on August 30, 2010. Topics discussed were: new contract with Youthworks, training new GAL's, and filling vacancies on the sub-committee.
ICWA Sub-Committee - Dennis Herbeck, Chair. Dennis reported the progress on the compliance survey and will report the results at the next CIP meeting in December.
Education Sub-Committee - Robin Huseby, Chair. Lee Ann Barnhardt passed out a handout containing a list of training opportunities that had been taken advantage of by referees, judges, states attorneys, defense attorneys, and the Juvenile Court Directors. Also discussed upcoming events including; ICWA conference, Judicial Conference, and regional meetings.
Data Collection and Analysis Sub-Committee - Louie Hentzen reported that Julie Bruns has been working with the court data bases as well as having contact with the Department of Human Services and their data.
CIP Grants - Lee Ann Barnhardt reported that the deadline for the next FY grants was August 30, 2010 and our grant requests were submitted on time.
Program Improvement Plan - DHS
Tara Mulhauser furnished a handout describing the DHS Program Improvement Plan, which was a result of the federal Children and Family Services Reveiew.
Next meeting is scheduled Thursday, December 2, 2010. We will try to conduct the meeting over
the IVN system.
