MINUTES Staff The Chair called the meeting to order. The minutes of the March 10, 2000 meeting were approved with the correction of striking the words "and would be difficult to sell" under Other Business on Page 4. Interactive Television Pilot Project Update Doug Johnson and Kurt Schmidt provided an update regarding the Interactive Television Pilot Project. The initial subcontractor selected by US West was unable to successfully implement the equipment as promised. A new subcontractor was selected and has recently installed and tested their equipment. The new subcontractor and equipment seem to be working well. Training will be held within a week with an "open house" scheduled the week of July 4. One additional piece of equipment, the 'gateway' is yet to be fully deployed. There are problems with the configuration of the device. US West, ITD and other vendors are working on the issue. The gateway is the device which lets our "IP-based" system communicate with other "non-IP" systems. NO ACTION WAS REQUIRED BY THE COMMITTEE New UCIS Users Kurt provided information regarding the addition of new, non-judicial users to UCIS, on an inquire-only basis. Recently, several entities have obtained access to the system. It is expected that by providing these people with more efficient, direct access to the system, they will reduce the amount of inquiries to the clerks within the courthouses. NO ACTION WAS REQUIRED BY THE COMMITTEE Policy 215 Suggestions Kurt provided a draft revised Policy 215 as Attachment 4. He explained that by removing the mention of specific access levels, the information technology department would be better able to address security levels and concerns. The Committee agreed keeping the levels in the policy was a better alternative. The suggestions were withdrawn. NO ACTION WAS REQUIRED BY THE COMMITTEE Support Personnel Kurt provided information as Attachment 5 regarding a reclassification review of Christine Iverson's position, based on her duties as site expert. JUDGE LECLERC MOVED THAT KURT AND THE CHAIR RESPOND TO THE LETTER FROM KEITHE, ADDRESSING POINTS 2 THROUGH 7 IN THE REVIEW REQUEST, AND STATING THAT THE COMMITTEE DOES NOT RECOMMEND SEEKING ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY POSITIONS AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL. JUDGE MEDD SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION PASSED. Kurt will draft a letter. PCSS & UCIS Integration update Kurt provided an update regarding PCSS and UCIS integration efforts. A request for proposal (RFP) seeking a vendor to review options and provide the programming efforts necessary for integration has been created and distributed. Responses are due July 5. NO ACTION WAS REQUIRED BY THE COMMITTEE Network Domain Restructure Kurt discussed changes planned for the Windows NT network and the email servers. The judicial branch's current nine Windows NT domains will be consolidated into one domain. Also, the current nine email servers will be consolidated into a single email server, using the name "@ndcourts.gov". During the email consolidation, email address names will be standardized to use the first letter of the first name and full last name as the prefix. Persons with duplicate names will have the first letter of the first name, middle initial, and full last name as their email address prefix to eliminate this problem. The reasons for the consolidation are to simplify management, support, virus protection, and administration of the email system and servers. NO ACTION WAS REQUIRED BY THE COMMITTEE September Meeting Change The location of the September meeting will be changed to a room within the Capitol. NO ACTION WAS REQUIRED BY THE COMMITTEE For the good of the order Kurt mentioned efforts currently underway to assist with the transition of marriage license duties to the counties. The marriage license component of UCIS may be removed and given to the counties or another system may be created. It was mentioned that the Attorney General's office is not supporting expansion of or enhancements to the SAMS system. They are only committed to supporting current users. The meeting adjourned.
