Chair Dale V. Sandstrom called the meeting to order at 2:40 p.m. He announced that two terms were up on the Pattern Jury Commission. Judge Gerald H. Rustad, who is eligible for reappointment, and Judge Gail Hagerty, who is not eligible. Justice Sandstrom announced that he solicited interest from judges, and the following judges indicated a desire to serve, if appointed. Judge Maurice R. Hunke, Judge Zane Anderson, Judge James M. Bekken and Judge John E. Greenwood. After discussion, Judge Kirk Smith offered a motion that Judge Bekken and Judge Rustad be considered for appointment. Judge Ronald E. Goodman seconded the motion. Motion Carried.
Rule 36 was discussed. This draft rule, with changes, was discussed and will be studied.
Keithe Nelson stated that at the request of the committee, the agenda for the November conference has been firmed up. The conference will start on Monday, at 9:15 a.m., as opposed to the normal noon start, with a presentation from 9:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the appropriate breaks and lunch. Dr. Zimmerman will cover the topic of Judicial Stress. Tuesday morning will consist of judicial planning. No speaker has been arranged. There will be a business meeting in the afternoon, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Since there is at least one and perhaps other members of the Judicial Conference departing, there will be a recognition luncheon at noon on Tuesday.
