A. The conference call convened at 8:15 a.m. Members present included Judge Donald Jorgensen, Chair; Judge Zane Anderson; Judge Ronald Goodman; Judge John Irby; Justice Carol Ronning Kapsner; Peggy Larson; Judge Bill Severin; and Carla Kolling, Staff. (Members absent: Shawn Peterson and Candace Zierdt.) Guests: Judge Bill McLees and Christine Hogan.
A. Chair Jorgensen informed the members that it is the judiciary's responsibility to develop the program for this year's Bench & Bar Seminar. Members were reluctant to commit to supporting the continuance of the Bench & Bar due to the poor participation by the bench in years past. Members discussed consolidating the program with homecoming and/or the federal practice seminar. Concern was expressed that there is currently sufficient programming and that the Bench & Bar was not needed. Chair Jorgensen requested Carla Kolling to send out a survey asking the judges to comment on whether the Bench & Bar Seminar should be continued. Chair Jorgensen requested Carla to schedule a conference call with the members for July 9, 2003, to discuss the results of the survey. Judge McLees and Christine Hogan were asked to participate in the conference call.
B. Chair Jorgensen informed the members that the Judicial Conduct Commission authorized a six-month extension to those municipal judges who were in noncompliance with their mandatory education requirement. Chair Jorgensen said he requested Paul Jacobson to provide notice of the Judicial Conduct Commission's action to the Education Commission.
C. Chair Jorgensen extended his appreciation to Judge McLees for his work on the Judicial Institute.
The meeting adjourned at 8:45 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Carla Kolling
