MINUTES B. Municipal Judge Mark Rasmuson - Attendance at Out of State Seminar. Chair Jorgensen explained that Judge Mark Rasmuson attended the National Conference of Special Court Judges, at the invitation of the Supreme Court, in June of 2002. He said that since Judge Rasmuson attended at the request of the Court, he assumed it would satisfy his education requirement for 2001 and therefore did not attend the October Municipal Judges Seminar. The members requested staff to contact Judge Rasmuson and have him forward the agenda and course outline to them for review. Upon review, the members will decide whether the course will satisfy the mandatory education hours. C. Municipal Judges Seminar - October 21, 2002. Carla reported that attendance was excellent this year. She explained that Chair Jorgensen participated briefly and spoke with the judges on the importance of attending the program and the plan that is in place for those who cannot attend due to unforeseen circumstances. D. Judicial Institute- May 19-22, 2003. Carla reported that the judges education committee would have a tentative agenda for the members review by February 1, 2003. B. Bench and Bar. Chair Jorgensen informed the members that attendance at the October Bench and Bar was low. He reminded them that next year the judiciary will be responsible for planning the program and asks members to give some thought to potential topics.
A. The conference call began at 8:00 a.m. Members present included Hon. Donald Jorgensen; Justice Carol Ronning Kapsner; Hon. John Irby; Hon. Bill Severin, and Shawn Peterson.
A. Mandatory Education Rule - Compliance. Chair Jorgensen informed the members that Surrogate Judge William Hodny is in need of additional CJE hours in order to be in compliance with the mandatory education rule. Carla Kolling informed the members that Judge Hodny intends on participating in the May 2003 Judicial Institute as well as other upcoming seminars. Judge Jorgensen requested the members to consider providing Judge Hodny an extension until June 30, 2003 to complete the requirements. A motion was made by Judge Irby, seconded by Justice Kapsner, to accept Chair Jorgensen's recommendation to provide Judge Hodny until June 30, 2003 to satisfy his 1998-2002 educational requirement, motion unanimously carried.
III. Pending Business: A. Municipal Judges Orientation Video. Carla Kolling informed the members that the script has been completed, and the working committee plans to begin production in January 2003.
