The minutes of the November 23, 2004, meeting were approved. Motioned by Judge Nelson, seconded by Karen Kringlie.
Louie Hentzen reported on the status of the upcoming juvenile court staffing study. The National Center for State Courts was the only bidder. A committee has been formed from across the state, balancing urban, rural, and unit representation.
Karen Kringlie provided an update of the Best Practices Advisory Committee. She reported that they are meeting more frequently and that they have divided into subcommittees. They have established a project due date of April 22 and will have something for the Juvenile Policy Board at the May 13, 2005, meeting.
The next order of business was to go through the Uniform Juvenile Court Act, N.D.C.C. Ch. 27-20. The group went through each section and members had general discussions, including adding language, deleting language. Notations were made on each section and Jim Ganje will draft the new language for sections 1 through 23, except for sections 19 and 20, for the Juvenile Policy Board to consider at the next meeting. The Board felt that sections 19 and 20 dealing with petitions should be dealt with at another time.
It was determined that the Juvenile Policy Board will review the balance of the Act at the May 13, 2005, meeting. The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting is scheduled for May
13, 2005, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
