RE: Rule 3.1, N.D.R.Ct., Pleadings
The Committee has already approved changes to Rule 3.1 related to protection of private information in documents filed with the court. Chief Justice VandeWalle has passed along another suggested change in document form that could be made in Rule 3.1.
California attorney David Cook is promoting the idea of allowing attorneys to serve documents that have been printed on both sides of the paper. He argues that this will save attorneys money and postage. Under his proposal, documents filed with the court would still need to be on a single side of the paper. Mr. Cook's letter to Chief Justice VandeWalle is attached.
Staff has prepared an additional amendment to Rule 3.1 that would incorporate Mr. Cook's idea. The proposal is attached.
