On July 17, 1998, Governor Edward T. Schafer convened the Judicial Nominating Committee to screen applicants and submit a list of nominees to fill a vacancy on the North Dakota Supreme Court upon the retirement of Justice Herbert L. Meschke.
The committee is now accepting applications from qualified parties interested in serving on the Supreme Court. To receive an application, submit a written request to me at the Association office. The application form and information concerning the interview process will be mailed to interested parties. Applications must be returned to the SBAND office and postmarked no later than August 19, 1998, to be considered by the committee.
Interviews are tentatively scheduled to be held on September 10 and 11. The deadline for submission of names by the committee to the Governor is September 15, 1998.
