The North Dakota Branch of the Historical Society of the United States Courts in the Eighth Circuit has published a history of North Dakota's federal district judges.
Patronage: Histories and Biographies of North Dakota's Federal District Judges, is written by Ardell Tharaldson, with a foreword by Senior Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Richard S. Arnold. Tharaldson is the longtime law clerk to North Dakota Federal District Judge Conmy.
