A record 52 applicants began taking the February 2013 North Dakota bar exam on Tuesday, February 26.
Of the 52 applicants, approximately 36 percent live out of state, and eleven are already licensed to practice law in another jurisdiction. The average number of applicants for the preceding six February exams is 24.
Penny Miller, Secretary-Treasurer of the State Board of Law Examiners, said the state's economy, especially the oil activity, contributed to the increase in applicants.
The exam concludes on Wednesday, February 27.
