Governor Jack Dalrymple has appointed Thomas R. Olson of Fargo to fill the East Central Judicial District judgeship vacancy that was created by Justice Lisa Fair McEvers' appointment to the North Dakota Supreme Court.
Olson was one of three finalists named by the Judicial Nominating Committee. The others were Darcie M. Einarson of Grafton and Robert L. Stroup III of Fargo. Seven lawyers initially applied for the position.
Olson is an attorney in private practice with the Johnson, Ramstad & Mottinger law firm. He has spent his entire legal career of 32 years in Fargo. A graduate of the William Mitchell College of Law, Olson was admitted to the North Dakota bar in 1981.
Under Article 6, § 13, of the North Dakota Constitution, Olson "shall continue in the position until the next general election immediately following the service of at least two years."
