The McKenzie County State's Attorney will accept applications from 7 March through 28 March 2014 for the position of Assistant State's Attorney. Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
Licensed, eligible to be licensed, or awaiting bar admission results to practice law in the State of North Dakota.
Reasonable interpersonal communication skills and affable manner toward support staff, county colleagues, law enforcement agencies, court personnel, and the general public.
Previous experience prosecuting or defending criminal cases is strongly preferred but not required.
Possession of or eligibility for a valid Class D North Dakota driver's license, with a clean driving record.
Successful applicant will be subject to a post-offer criminal background check.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Gather and manage evidence in civil, criminal, juvenile, and traffic cases; litigate cases from start to finish.
Advise law enforcement officers, prepare and present warrant applications, and conduct probable cause hearings.
Conduct legal research and prepare legal correspondence, pleadings, briefs, and opinions.
Advise county officials and their staff regarding official duties, and represent county agencies in legal proceedings.
Supervise support staff and oversee administration of office in the absence of the State's Attorney.
