An 18-hour Parenting Investigator & Legal Guardian ad litem Certification Training session will take place in Bismarck June 19-21. Registrations are due by June 4.
When parents are not able to resolve disputes about parenting time or rights and responsibilities, the dispute may go to trial for a judge to decide.
Prior to trial, the court may require the family to participate in a parenting investigation. A parenting investigator is then assigned to gather information to assist the judge in making the best decision.
A guardian ad litem serves as an advocate for a child's best interest and may be appointed by the court when either party petitions the court for their appointment. A legal guardian ad litem must be a licensed attorney in the State of North Dakota.
