On May 31, the North Dakota State Library, the North Dakota Heritage Center, and the North Dakota State Capitol were filled with children gathered together to celebrate reading, as the Bismarck and Mandan public libraries kicked off their summer reading programs.
This year’s summer reading theme is “Dig Into Reading!” Despite rain, more than 2,300 children attended the event.
North Dakota Chief Justice Gerald VandeWalle was the featured reader at the kick off. He read “The Three Little Pigs” to the children.
Lieutenant Governor Drew Wrigley, Secretary of State Al Jaeger, First Lady Betsy Dalrymple and State Librarian Hulen E. Bivins also took turns reading to the children throughout the day.
