North Dakota's uniform law commissioners are considering proposed uniform acts at the annual meeting of the Uniform Law Commission in Boston.
Acts being given final consideration include the Uniform Powers of Appointment Act, the Uniform Act on Prevention of and Remedies for Human Trafficking, the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (with 2013 Amendments Pertaining to International Proceedings), and a project which harmonizing uniform business entity acts.
Acts being considered for the first time include the Revised Uniform Residential Landlord and Tenant Act, the Interjurisdictional Recognition of Substitute Decision-Making Documents Act, the Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act, Amendments to the Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act, and the Home Foreclosure Procedures Act.
Proposed acts are generally read at two annual meetings before there is a vote by the states as to whether the act will be approved and presented to state legislatures. Readings are line-by-line meetings and debate is often lively.
North Dakota Commissioners in attendance include: Jay Buringrud, Judge Gail Hagerty, Rep. Lawrence Klemin, Rep. William Kretschmar, Prof. Bradley Myers, Dave Nething, and Prof. Candace Zierdt. Other commissioners are Prof. Owen Anderson and Sen. David Hogue.
