The Wells County Commission has appointed Kathleen K. Trosen as Wells County State's Attorney. Trosen replaces Ted D. Seibel, who resigned June 30.
Trosen took office July 1. A 1995 graduate of the University of North Dakota School of Law, Trosen has been an attorney in private practice in Harvey since receiving her law degree. Because state's attorney is an elected position, Trosen will need to run in the November election to continue in the post.
"I will still campaign for the position," Trosen said. Even though he resigned the job, Seibel's name will still appear on the November ballot as a candidate for state's attorney. Trosen outpolled Seibel 650-377 in the primary election. Trosen said Seibel told her that the work involved with his part-time state's attorney job left Seibel little time to devote to his private practice. In an interview with the Harvey Herald-Press, Seibel cited time pressures as one reason for his resignation. Trosen said she expects to be spending a great deal of time working on methamphetamine cases as in her role as state's attorney. "Unfortunately for Well's County, we have a growing meth lab problem." Trosen is a member of the North Dakota and Minnesota bars and is admitted to practice in federal court in North Dakota. Trosen established the "Trosen Law Firm" in Harvey in 1995. Trosen said it is a general practice firm, which handles family law cases, tax return preparation, estate planning, bankruptcy cases, collection and business matters, and real estate work. Trosen has been Harvey's city attorney since 1997, prosecuting municipal matters such as "minor in possessions, driving under suspension, driving without liability insurance, speeding tickets, care required, dog violations, running a stop sign, leaving the scene of an accident, disorderly conduct, etc.," she said. Trosen also counsels the city on other matters, such as street water and sewer projects. July 3, 2002 |
