On October 1, 1996, the Supreme Court adopted Rule 8.5, North Dakota Rules of Court, permitting the use of summary proceedings in domestic relations cases in certain judicial districts. Rule 8.5, North Dakota Rules of Court, was to remain in effect until April 1, 1998, but was amended March 26, 1998, to extend the period to October 1, 1999. Rule 8.5, subsection (h), states: "After the trial period, the Court will decide if statewide implementation of the process is feasible and warranted."
