Judge Lautt was appointed to Judgeship #1 for the North Central Judicial District in 2025 by Governor Kelly Armstrong.

Born and raised in Minot, Judge Lautt attended public schools through the eighth grade and graduated from Our Redeemer’s Christian School in 2003. Judge Lautt attended Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas, earning a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, History, and Religion in 2007. Following his undergraduate studies, Judge Lautt worked in the United States Senate as a committee staffer for Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon.

Judge Lautt returned to Kansas and began law school in 2009, earning his Juris Doctor with Dean’s Honors in 2012. Judge Lautt was admitted to the North Dakota Bar on September 17, 2012, and worked in private legal practice in Minot until his judgeship in 2025.

Born in 1961; Judge Cresap is a native of Valley City, ND. He received his bachelor's degree from Minot State College in 1983, and received his Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1986. He was admitted to the N.D. Bar on September 26, 1986. He worked in private legal practice in Minot, ND until his judgeship in 2009.

Judge Hagar was elected as District Court Judge in 2006 for the North Central Judicial District judgeship #3 located in Minot, ND. He was re-elected in 2012, and 2018.

Born in 1957; Judge Hagar graduated from the United States Air Force Academy located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1979. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1988, and was admitted to the N.D. Bar on April 25, 1989. He was in private legal practice in Minot, ND until his judgeship in 2006.

Judge Lee was elected as District Court Judge in 2004 for the North Central Judicial District #2 located in Minot, ND.

Born in 1955; Judge Lee earned his Bachelor's in Administration from the University of North Dakota. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1980, and was admitted to the N.D. Bar on October 14, 1980.

Judge Lee was the Assistant Attorney General from 1980-1982, and worked in private legal practice from 1982 until his judgeship in 2004. He went on to be re-elected in 2010, and 2016.

Douglas L. Mattson

Judge Mattson was elected as District Court Judge in 2002 for the North Central Judicial District #1 located in Minot, ND. He was then re-elected in 2008, 2014 and 2020.

Born in 1955; Judge Mattson is a native of Minot, ND. Judge Mattson served in North Dakota House of Representatives from 1978-1982. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1985. He was admitted to the N.D. bar on November 18, 1985. He worked for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Senator Mark Andrews in Washington, D.C. from 1985-1986. Judge Mattson worked in private legal practice in Minot, ND from 1987-1990. He was the Ward County State's Attorney from 1990 until his judgeship in 2002.
