Courthouses closed for Thanksgiving holiday

The Supreme Court and courthouses across the state will be closed Thursday for Thanksgiving. The Supreme Court and the courthouses in Barnes, Burleigh, Cass and Morton counties will be open Friday. The state's other courthouses will be closed.

Judge Schneider will not run for reelection in SCJD

South Central Judicial District Judge Thomas J. Schneider has announced that he will not be running for reelection in 2020. Judge Schneider served as a county judge from 1986-1994 and was first elected district judge in 1994.

Celebrating 100 years of votes for women

Ceremonies marking North Dakota Ratification Day will be held Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Heritage Center in Bismarck. A program featuring Supreme Court Justice Lisa McEvers as guest speaker will begin at 2 p.m. on Dec. 1.

Second vote set in Chief Justice election

Ballots in the election for Chief Justice were opened Nov. 25. Because no candidate received a majority of the votes cast, there will be a second vote between Justice Jon Jensen and Justice Lisa Fair McEvers.

Judge Hagerty to retire

South Central Judicial District Presiding Judge Gail Hagerty has announced that she will retire effective March 16, 2020. Judge Hagerty served as a Burleigh County Judge from 1987-1994 and was first elected as a SCJD judge in 1994.

Pro hac vice fee payments due Jan. 1

Under Rule 3, Admission to Practice rules, lawyers who continue to appear in 2020 in a North Dakota proceeding for which they have already filed a motion for pro hac vice admission are required to pay a fee of $380 by January 1, 2020.
