Public Access to Court Records and Secure Public Access

There are two ways to access North Dakota public court records.  Public access and Secure Public Access.

Public Access - NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Online access is available for North Dakota District Court and Municipal Court Records at the North Dakota Courts Records Inquiry.

Exceptions:

  • For security purposes, Personal Information such as social security number and address information is not available.
  • Effective March 15, 2009, Section 5(b)(11) was amended to list types of protected information open to the public.
  • Effective March 1, 2015, Section 5(b)(6) was amended to clarify that the restriction on public access to documents in domestic violence protection order and disorderly conduct restraining order cases under this paragraph is limited to cases that were dismissed summarily.
  • Effective March 1, 2017, Section 5(b)(9) was amended to exclude pretrial diversion cases resulting in dismissal from public access.
  • Effective March 1, 2017, Section 5(b)(10) was added to exclude cases in which a magistrate finds no probable cause for the issuance of a complaint from public access.

Secure Public Access - REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Secure online access is available for North Dakota District Court and Municipal Court Records for those who meet the criteria.

An application process is required to gain access to case information.

The applicant requesting access must submit the application.  Only one application per email, as each applicant will have a unique login.
