Legal Assistant

Wells County State’s Attorney, Fessenden, Wells County, ND

 

The Wells County State’s Attorney will accept applications for the position of Legal Assistant until filled.  This is a full-time, regular, non-exempt position.  The office is located in Fessenden, Wells County, ND, at the Wells County Courthouse.

Reports to:  Wells County State’s Attorney

Starting Salary:  approximately $12-16 per hour, DOE & Commissioner Approval

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma. Preference given to persons with office experience, especially legal office experience, and/or criminal law and/or criminal justice experience. 
  • This position will require typing ability and preference will be given to persons able to type 60 WPM.
  • Successful completion of interview process, reference checks, and background and criminal checks, and driver’s licenses checks to determine knowledge, skills, and abilities to maintain confidentiality, organization and to perform legal assistant duties and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of computers for preparing letters, legal documents, reports, data entry, and other correspondence and forms. Experience with Microsoft Office preferred.  Preference will be given to those with experience in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Odyssey, CJIS, and Justware.
  • Requires a High Degree of confidentiality, and a High Degree of communication skills to deal with employees, law enforcement, juvenile courts, district courts, clerks, defendants, attorneys, and the general public.

 

Job Duties:

 

Perform legal assistant duties included, but not limited to: typing legal documents, letters, correspondence, dictation, answering phone calls, contacting witnesses by telephone, email, mail, and subpoenas, using communication skills to effectively deal with various persons and personalities and issues, organizing and prioritizing work, meeting deadlines, opening and maintaining and filing files, maintaining calendars, serving copies of legal documents on appropriate parties, assist with legal research and preparation of drafts of complaints, and prepare PowerPoint presentations, and all other miscellaneous clerical duties as assigned by the State’s Attorney.  Timely and regular attendance is required as is the ability to interact well with other county employees, and various law enforcement agencies, courts, and the public.
