Dewel E. Viker, Jr. 1940 - 2019 Wednesday, August 21, 2019

Dewel Viker Jr. (78) of rural Hillsboro, ND passed away on Friday, August 16th, 2019 with his family at his side. The second of two children, Dewel was born on August 28, 1940 in Fargo, ND to Dewel and Hazel Viker (Hermanson).

Growing up on the family farm, Dewel attended grade school at Herberg County School and graduated from Halstad High School in 1958. Dewel then attended Concordia College (Class of 1962) and completed his Juris Doctor at UND in 1965. Concurrent to his secondary education Dewel married his high school sweetheart, Geraldine (Swalstad) on December 23, 1960.

In addition to working on his family farm with his brother, and later his son, Dewel practiced law throughout North Dakota and served as state's attorney for multiple years.

Dewel was a man devoted to his faith who quietly demonstrated his convictions throughout his life. He served his church both as a council member as well as Sunday School teacher. He served his community by working on the Halstad nursing home board and the Halstad Elevator board where he was instrumental to the elevator that supports the farmers of his community.

Dewel was also a student of history and avid traveler. It was through his travels that gave him an intimate insight to other cultures and points of view. Dewel shared this love with his family by taking them all over the world, and with his friends by sharing his stories.

Dewel was preceded in death by his parents, Dewel and Hazel Viker. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Geraldine, his 3 children Vicki (Steve) Harris, Dewel III, Elliot (Meredeth) Viker, 4 grandchildren, Forrest, Autumn, Taya, and Muirenn, his older brother Bruce (Joanne), nieces and nephews, and many beloved family, friends, and neighbors.

Funeral: 11:00AM Thursday, August 22, 2019, at Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the service on Thursday at the church.

Burial: Halstad South Cemetery, Halstad, MN.
