In the Matter of the Vacancy in Judgeship No. 2, with Chambers in Bismarck, North Dakota, South Central Judicial District

[1] On May 31, 2018, Governor Doug Burgum notified this Court of the resignation of the Honorable Sonna Marie Anderson as Judge of the District Court in the South Central Judicial District, effective June 30, 2018. Under N.D.C.C. § 27-05-02.1 a vacancy in the office of district judge will be created upon Judge Anderson's retirement. The Court considered the matter, and

[2] ORDERED, the Supreme Court undertake a written consultation with the attorneys and judges of the South Central Judicial District on this matter under N.D. Sup. Ct. Admin. R. 7.2. Any judge, lawyer, or member of the public wishing to comment on the vacancy may do so by email to Penny Miller, Clerk of the Supreme Court, at or in writing addressed to 600 E. Boulevard Ave., Bismarck, ND 58505-0530, no later than June 19, 2018. It is expected the Supreme Court will receive a report from the District Court Administrator for Unit 3, regarding the South Central Judicial District and discussing the criteria under Administrative Rule 7.2, and statewide caseload data from the State Court Administrator's Office.

[3] The Supreme Court of the State of North Dakota, with the Honorable Gerald W. VandeWalle, Chief Justice, the Honorable Daniel J. Crothers, the Honorable Lisa Fair McEvers, the Honorable Jerod E. Tufte and the Honorable Jon J. Jensen, Justices, directed the Clerk of the Supreme Court to enter the above order.
