SCJD Judge Anderson to retire

Judge Sonna Anderson

District Judge Sonna Anderson has announced her retirement effective June 30. She has served as a judge in the South Central Judicial District since 2004.

Judge Anderson announced her retirement in a letter to Governor Doug Burgum.

"I have been honored to serve the State of North Dakota and especially the citizens of the South Central Judicial District as Judge for the past fourteen and a half years," Judge Anderson wrote.

Under N.D.C.C. § 27-05-02.1, the Supreme Court is required by law to determine if the judgeship should be retained, moved, or eliminated. It would be filled by appointment.

Judge Anderson took office in January 2004 after being appointed by Governor John Hoeven to succeed Judge Benny Graff as district judge. Previously, she was in private legal practice in Bismarck from 1987-2003. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from the University of North Dakota in 1981 and her law degree from University of Denver College of Law in 1985.
