N.D. Attorney General opinion: Dec. 23
Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem has issued an opinion that the Ethics Commission has the constitutional authority to promulgate rules defining “lobby” and “lobbyist,” even if those definitions are broader than what has been adopted by the Legislature. -

Courthouses to close for Christmas holiday

Gary Annear 1933-2020
Longtime Assistant United States Attorney Gary Annear died Dec. 9. A UND School of Law graduate, he was admitted to the N.D. bar in 1960. A family memorial service will be held on Monday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m., and will be livestreamed. -
Walfrid B. Hankla 1930-2020
Longtime Minot attorney Walfrid B. "Wally" Hankla died Dec. 9. A UND School of Law graduate, he was admitted to the N.D. bar in 1958. The family will have a private service on Monday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m., which will be livestreamed. -
February 2021 bar examination to be administered remotely
The North Dakota State Board of Law Examiners has decided to administer a remote-only Uniform Bar Examination on Feb. 23-24, 2021. -
Grants awarded to assist Juvenile Drug Court
The St. Joseph’s Community Health Foundation awarded the Minot Association of Drug Court Professionals a $2,000 grant for their incentive program with the North Central Juvenile Drug Court. Meanwhile, the John & Elaine Andrist Charitable Trust awarded $1,000 to the Northwest Juvenile Drug Court. -

The State Court Administrator has calculated that the interest rate on judgments for 2021 will be 6.5 percent. -
