Relinquish License

North Dakota does not have an inactive license status.  A lawyer is either licensed or not licensed. 

A lawyer choosing not to be licensed is encouraged to review Rule 8, Admission to Practice R., regarding the requirements for relicensure.

Should a lawyer decide not to renew their license, this form (Request for Voluntary CLE Noncompliance Status) can be completed and e-mailed to the State Board of Law Examiners (barexaminers@ndcourts.gov).  The Board of Law Examiners will mark the attorney’s license status as voluntarily not licensed. The form will also be forwarded to SBAND for their CLE recording purposes.
